Veterinary telehealth consultations are currently available to clients located in all 50 states within the United States. However, pursuant to applicable state veterinary practice acts, telemedicine and prescribing regulations, prescription medications may only be authorized following a telehealth consultation when both of the following conditions are satisfied:
(1) the patient is physically located in a state where the attending veterinarian maintains an active and valid veterinary license, and
(2) the telehealth encounter otherwise complies with the laws, rules, and professional standards governing veterinary telemedicine within that jurisdiction.
Accordingly, prescription services arising from a telehealth appointment are presently limited to patients residing in the following states where licensed veterinary coverage is available:
Florida, California, Virginia, Vermont, Arizona, New York, New Jersey, and Ohio
Availability of prescription services remains subject to applicable legal and regulatory requirements, including veterinarian licensure status, telemedicine eligibility, and professional discretion.
